Tuesday 12th
There are times when one is exactly in the right place at the right time. On Low Row Road was the famous Harriot ford, the perfect spot for a peaceful night. 10 pm, watching Star Trek Voyager (I'm most definitely a trekkie!) I just happened to glance through the front window. Gosh, so glad we hadn't shut out the night because coming up over the horizon was the Super Moon also called the Buck Moon
To get these photos took great courage on my part. As mentioned in a previous post, gnats, midges or any of those nasty biting insects love my blood. The table was brought outside and the camera set up. I couldn't see any sign of those blighters so thought I had got away with it until suddenly I felt tiny pinpricks hitting my skin. My face felt on fire and earlobes were their preferred target. At great sacrifice to my complexion I stayed put, well what chance would I get again to get those pictures in this wonderful place. Gosh, I suffered overnight. Thankfully we had bought anti itch cream which was liberally applied over the face and ears. A face pack of sorts, but not one to iron out the wrinkles!
Wednesday 13th
It was lovely to wake up and throw back the curtains, safe in the knowledge that only the sheep would see us still in bed. We did get up eventually, but not before 9 am. By 10 am we said goodbye to this lovely spot, not sure if or when we will be back, and headed for the coast. For once we both agreed that sitting on a beach and maybe dipping our toes into the sea would be a good idea. So destination was Filey! As a last farewell, we were held up by a family of grouse!
Our sat nav took us to Thirsk. It's the fictional town of Darroby and Skeldale house, where James and Siegfried used to reside, and is now a museum; we visited last year, and well worth a visit.
As we passed through by the square, I noticed that on every post a knitted Jubilee item had been placed over the top. If we could find somewhere to park, we would stop. A large car park just outside the main shopping area was the ideal place. Armed with camera, we went for a look.
Must have spent a good hour wandering around. Ian managed to purchase some long screws from a hard wear store, one of the window blinds had come loose and could we find the screw? Anyway, after I had taken the photos Ian suddenly remembered he wanted superglue to fix some laminate edging strips on MB, so back we went. Only a £1 it was a bargain. Well, it was until Ian dropped the coin and watched in horror as it rolled under the counter. Talk about disrupting the store! I looked, Ian looked, a lady being served got out her phone and shone the light underneath, the two ladies serving got down on hands and knees to see if they could find it and then Ian got down as well. By now a queue had formed, and several bemused shoppers waited to see the outcome. It wasn't what we wanted, all that was found was a 20p piece and plenty of dust! So our bargain of the day at a £1 turned out to be an expensive £2 buy!
Just outside Filey, we looked for a park 4 night. Ian had found a CC club site, one that is called a 'Hideaway'. Prices are always very reasonable but as to facilities, apart from water and elsan disposal, there isn't any. No shower for me tonight, then!
And today's wildlife
Just a gull but I took this because its beak looked weird. Probably digging in mud caused the marks. |

Have you thought of buying a midge hat? My daughter's family had them when they lived in Scotland and were able to visit all sorts of midgy places in comfort. You probably have to get one online from a scottish outdoor shop. Worth it for the pictures though!

Very clever and talented knitters/crocheters. All must have been done without a pattern. Amazing.

Hi Debby, We have got midge nets but stupidly left them in FS. Bought them originally for Australia and never gave it a thought when we left. Thanks for the info though.
