About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

And smoke wafted across the motorway.

Thumbs up for the NHS. No waiting for an op for us. Nop, Wednesday we turned up for the appointment with the dermatologist fully expecting a look at the pyogenic granuloma and a new appointment for removal to be made. But no, the consultant took one look and immediately contacted one of the doctors to say it should be removed today! Not that it was anything sinister, click on the link above to find out more, The protrusion was cut off and sent away for analysis. Strict instructions not to drink (must be because of the local anaesthetic) 48 hours of not having it get wet and for the dressing to stay on for 3 days but after that we were free to further our adventures on MB.

We waited until Sunday before setting off. In the meantime a trip to one of the caravan spares place in Kimberly to view cookers and one was found that would do nicely. Almost the same make and model except much newer with a front pull down door. I could have fan assisted, but you're looking at several hundred more. The cooker wasn't cheap either, we decided to wait until our return in September to buy one.

Leaving FS about 10ish, first stop was to daughter Christine to drop off cards for birthdays. Gosh our grandson Josh will be a teenager in a couple of weeks! Where has the time gone? After a quick cup of coffee, got underway before midday.

Traffic was better than we expected until we hit the M25. Both sides of the carriageway were busy, smoke could be seen lingering over the motorway, could this be the reason. Sat nav recommended a detour, we decide to go for it, took the slip road onto the M3 and then off towards Sunbury and somehow got completely lost. After showing the alternative route, she then decided that we had to do a U-turn and head back!  Took a while for me to find where we were on a proper map, but somehow I got Ian on the right road to by pass the hold up. We eventually joined the M25 further down, with traffic flowing freely once more. Mind you it put a further 40 minutes on our travel time, made me wonder if we had stayed in the queue, would we have got to the same point quicker!

What should have taken us about 4 hours took nearly 6 to reach a CC site near to Tunbridge Wells. Nice small site with the chimes of a church roughly 300 yds way and planes to Heathrow circling regularly overhead. So far neither have been invasive so hoping for a quiet night.

And this moth at the site

Scalloped Oak
