About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

V Shed Wetherspoon's, terrible meal, terrible ale. In fact dont bother going to that one if your in Bristol.

We like Bristol, we like it a lot. It's a fabulous, vibrant and fun place to be. Loads of things to do and see, but goodness where is the time going? Had a meal last night at the Wetherspoons V Shed. Now we like Wetherspoons, we like it a lot but this one was awful! Not so much for Dave and myself choosing the curry, but for Ian and especially Heather. Their meals came out luke warm and Heathers burger was cold! Sent back and the replacement was no better. Sent that back too and Heather told them in no uncertain terms where they could stick it. Told them not to bother sending a third replacement. Spoilt it slightly for us all and as for the real ale selection, forget it! Ian went on Trip Advisor and left a scathing report. Never have we been so disappointed in a Wetherspoon's. So onwards to The Shakespeare where the men got a decent pint and we got entertained by the Bristol Morris men.

This morning we took the ferry across the dock to ss Great Britain. All of 80p for a 2 minute trip.   Spent over 3 hours visiting this impressive ship. Loads of photos but will put them on my web album and a link to it at a later date. Had lunch then did an open top bus tour round the city and Clifton suspension bridge. By the time we returned it was well after 3pm and missed the last 3D show at the Planetarium so that's on the cards for tomorrow as well as the aquarium and a walk across the suspension bridge.

Irene - If you are opposite the SS Great Britain that is where we moored just over a week ago! We too, loved Bristol and want to go back. When you come back through Bath do try to go to Bizarre Bath one evening - it is £8 well spent! We are going to be be going from the bottom of the Caen Hill flight to The Black Horse Pub tomorrow, so we are well ahead of you, so our paths may not cross this year. We came down the Severn Estuary from Sharpness - it was nice and calm, so we really enjoyed the day. Jennie and Chris

Hi ! Had similar problems with Wetherspoons on the last few visits, with Carolyn now refusing to go in one again. Seems a shortage of staff in the ones we have had problems with. Usually good value which is why we used to like them..Gary & Carolyn NB Inca
