About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

More smoke and could this be the black screen of death!

 November 10th

Had a meal at the Cheshire cat last night, really nice but a tad pricey. In fact my large Shiraz came to £7.40! Could have had a whole bottle of that from the supermarket! Time to leave and find a rural mooring for the day. The winding hole was but a few minutes cruise and Ian did the deed this time (my arm was much too painful to fight with the tiller at the winding hole.)

I do wonder at some folk when I saw this,

Back past that line of boats. The GPS came out to check our speed, 2mph, so taking the 35 minutes we estimated the distance to be a mile and a bit.

Found a great place to stop, but then an awful smell hit us. On the towpath was a dead sheep. Mostly devoured by something so no stopping here!

We did find a suitable place, nothing at all around us and no one to annoy with that white smoke. So after lunch Ian fired the Webasto into life.

The heater was kept on for 20 minutes and nothing changed, none of the smoke abated. The smell of antifreeze lingered, and the conclusion there must be a small perforation in the heat exchanger. A phone call to Steve who fixed it for us in the first place and it has been arranged for him to fetch it when we go through Fradley.

The rest of this post was done on Ian's computor, you'll see why in a moment. (And a good job I had already imported my photos)

I spent a very productive afternoon fishing until the wind picked up, and the chill became unbearable. No good I had to give up and start the long process of sorting out my photos on the laptop. Then the unthinkable happened! One minute I was busy working away and the next, a black screen! Blast must be the battery needs charging but no, nothing I or Ian did would bring the thing back to life. Because Nantwich was our next port of call, Ian found a computor repair shop in the town center. So that's tomorrow's job. Get to Nantwich and keep fingers crossed it can be repaired.

And wildlife,

Not another Ladybird! Ian even had one when he opened his computor lid. Where are they coming from?
