About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Waiting for the Sandford lock. This was the second deepest lock on the Thames, Teddington being the first. The very nice lock keeper climbed down the steps to take my rope, put it round the bollard, and then passed it back to me. That was all well and good except when he opened the sluice's there was so much water coming in that I had a real job to hold the rope. I started to panic because trying to hang on left handed when I couldn't even help hold the rope with my right hand made my left hand cramp up. The boat started to drift alarmingly into the middle when just in time the lock keeper noticed my plight and grabbed the rope from me. Potential disaster of colliding with another boat, avoided!!!
