About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Another stuck boat

The family arrived early afternoon and after persuading them to take us shopping decided to go out for a meal that night. After a pleasant evening in the Jolly boatman with Paul, Gillian, Dennis and Margaret we all went to bed hoping the weather would hold for the morning. Rain had been forecast and apparently whenever Paul and Gillian went on holiday rain would follow. So we were pleasantly surprised when rain fell overnight and the morning dawned fine and fair. These pictures were taken not long after we had left our mooring. One of the hire boats had a party of lads on board. It was a stag do and after a good night out they decided to wind the boat to return to their base. Where they are trying to turn the boat is a designated winding hole, but they had completely misjudged the turn and got stuck fast. We were left waiting for nearly half an hour before they eventually, with a lot of pulling, got the boat turned!!!
