Another long day...... all of 1 1/2 hours cruising!! The dogs went out at the usual time of 7 am but I stayed in bed reading Dawn French's Dear Fatty. Eventually the smell of the toast made me decide to get up and after breakfast we gave the boat a good wash. No sooner had we finished when the rain came so all that effort was of no avail. By now it was about 10 am so as soon as the rain stopped we set off. The first lock we came to was Debdale Lock with its iconic round bywash.
It was also the lock where I very nearly had all the bedding soaked. The leakage from the walls was just at the right height to go through the bedroom window. Luckily as I crept passed the flow diminished. Phew. ( it would have been my side that got wet!!)
We are moored now topside of Wolverley Court Lock. Fabulous rural setting with loads of walks for the Woofits. If we hadn't got to get to Droitwich by Monday I think we might well have stayed.

Have I mentioned that we are heading to the Droitwich canal opening? Ian has offered to help so we hope to arrive on Tuesday via the Barge canal. This email was sent to us by Waterscape.
The Droitwich Barge Canal will open to navigation from the River Severn to Netherwich Basin in Droitwich from 10.00 am on Monday 20th June.
Good news for us but not so good from the other end. That email states
The Junction Canal is still having last minute jobs done and we are planning to have it navigable by next Friday (24th June).
We will then with BW take two narrowboats down on Saturday 26th and bring a working boat drawing over 3' up on Sunday.
BW will then use Monday 27th June to correct any minor problems we find and open up to general navigation on Tuesday 28th June.
A boater locking up at Wolverley lock told us that when he had arrived at the Junction canal on the Worcs and Birmingham, a number of boats were moored up. They were all waiting for that section to open. As today is the 23rd they are in for quite a wait. I hope they have full water tanks and empty cassettes!

Thank you for all the info, we are heading for the Junction Canal at the moment. As of today we are at Tibberton and will set of Monday for Hanbury Wharf to empty cassettes etc. The reason we came this way was because there are no facilities at Droitwich and we would not last long enough to wait for the event. I guess we will be joining the queue on Monday. Jo x
