About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Making our way to Windmill End, Dudley No 2 canal

Spon Lane Junction and the

Bottom lock. We passed the top section 3 days ago.
The Netherton tunnel is 2774 mts long. ( about 1 and 3/4 miles) and dead straight. What a phenomenal bit of tunneling by the men back in the 1850's.

Entrance from Windmill End
Leaving the tunnel we found ouselves at Windmill End Junction. Such a pretty area and loads of wide open space's for the dogs to run. We thought our mooring idilyc until something clattering on our roof at 7 pm gave us quite a shock. Both of us rushed outside only to see 2 youths rapidly disappearing over the bridge. We had no idea what  was thrown but we were pretty certain that it was a stone.  Nowhere is safe these days, not even in a lovely place like this.

Tomorrow is fathers day and Christine, Kev and our gorgeous grandson Josh is coming to visit.
