About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

RSPCA to the rescue

All day yesterday we worried about the injured signet. Both swans had been good parents but later in the day I watched as one of the swans started pecking at it and chasing it away. The signet kept quite a bit of distance between its parents and itself for fear, no doubt, of being attacked again. It did eventually manage to get back onto the nest with its siblings but when both parents swam away taking the healthy signets with them, the youngster was left all alone. When the swans didn't return we thought the worse would happen. A fox was seen two nights ago hanging round the nest so we were convinced that a sad end would befall the signet. Then along comes two community officers on their rounds. They took one look at the baby and decided that they would phone the RSPCA and save its life. I'll give them their due. They stayed from 5.30pm until 7pm guarding the poor little mite until eventually the man from the RSPCA turned up and rescued the signet. He said that it stood a good chance of recovery so ,as one would say, all's well that ends well.
