About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

This can only get worse.

Is it just me??? Does no one else feel the same way??? I'm beginning to wonder just how bad it will get before anything is done about the offside veg. Ashby was challenging in that department but parts of the Coventry is equally bad. If nothing is done then in the coming years, how many canals will become unnavigable? In the next photo we were very nearly grounded. Yes I could have ploughed FS through those branches but how many car owners would drive through a hedge knowing their paintwork would get scratched? My opinion alone but this seems exactly what C&RT are asking us to do with our boats.

It felt like rocks we rolled over next to the towpath

How are we expected to know what is coming. But if the veg was cut back.....

And what do you make of this???

And yet again!

Glascote locks busy as usual. Both locks are slow to fill although the bottom lock is much worse.

We could see a boat in the distance, by the lock, and unsure if it was on the landing or by the water point. Ah, but as Ian walked past, hose was still out so definitely on the water point and the chap was in the shower! His misses, deciding that the lock was theirs and not ours, reeled in the hose and pushed the boat toward the lock to make us wait, and I might add, with her husband frantically trying to get dressed!

Busy little flight, this.

Two more boats waiting to ascend the flight

And boats at the top waiting to descend one of which was Festina Lente

Stopping before Fazeley Junction and had the most amazing fishing experience. Well into the night I fished and plenty more were caught.

And seen on route,

This spotted on a boat singing its little head off

Amazing what one sees in gardens.

And wildlife,
