About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

And he doffed his cap.

Saturday 19th

We were determined not to move this weekend, last weekend was a nightmare and one we didn't want to repeat, but we did move, going as far as Polesworth about a hours cruise away. So many times we have talked about stopping to see Polesworth Abbey  and have always carried right on past. Open just two days a week, Wednesday and Sunday, 9am-4pm, it was perfect opportunity for us to visit tomorrow.

First though the cassette required emptying and the facilities were but a stone's throw away. With all that malarkey at Sutton stop two days ago, pulling back to the last bollard to make room for another boat to slot in was the way to go. Good job too as one did arrive but had difficulty with the wind in getting in. "Dam" said he. "I only want to get rid of the rubbish." I offered to do the deed for him. "Throw me the bags" I shouted, to which he thanked me profusely and lopped two black bags at my feet. Then on his way he went doffing his cap and with a cheery shout of "Have a good day".

So not much has happened today apart from washing FS and walking to the butchers for the specialist sausages and burgers we wanted, only to find they were all sold out. Oh, and finding a tackle shop nearby, bonus as I rather fancied an afternoon of fishing.

And wildlife,
