About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

To much bonging!

Not the best of weather for the foreseeable future, mores the pity, looks like waterproofs will be needed on our days out. Ian cursed the rain last night. It must have been around 2 am when I woke with a start to hear rain beating down and in the dim light saw a figure moving about. Well, it had to be Ian, if not we had an intruder! "Are you okay?" I asked. His reply in a very gruff voice "No I'm not." "What's the matter?" said I expecting him to say he had cramp. We get that quite often you know. Probably something to do with age. I had heard its lack of salt that's the problem, but that's only a theory. Anyway I'm straying off the track. "There's this bonging sound, a steady noise which is driving me nuts" was his reply. The light went on and he proceeded to open a cupboard above his bed taking all manner of things out. Head went in to listen as he was convinced the incessant bong came from higher up.  In the end he never did discover the cause and so he (and me) could get back to sleep, turned his sleeping bag around, so we slept top to tail. Finally, peace was restored, the rain stopped and next thing we knew it was 7 am.

With the rain in dribs and drabs it wasn't a good morning to go visiting NT places so we walked into Crowborough instead. Did you know that Canon Doyle lived in this town for 23 years? A Statue to mark this was outside the Working Men Club. To read all about it click HERE

.  Stopped at Lidl for essentials before making our way back to MB to sit out the rest of the morning. By midday the improvement in the weather made us look for another NT Garden to visit. We chose Sheffield` Park and Gardens.  Another great place to visit. Oh and Ian had one of those light bulb moments whilst there. It had to be water dripping from the Solar Panel last night that caused the noise. Hmm, does this mean disturbed nights every time it rains? Maybe making sure MB is parked on the level will be the answer. We will find out next time it rains during the night thats for sure.

Hoping to collect the camera tomorrow. Slight concern when phoning the company...they hadn't even started it but assured me that first thing Friday morning........

Today's wildlife.

That blogpost title did have me wondering if you'd both taken up smoking dope and accidentally ODed on it...
Can Ian fit some stick on felt or something similar on the roof around the perimeter of the solar panel so that the dripping sound is deadened?

Hi Marilyn, I had thought minds would go elsewhere (wink, wink, no what I mean)but drugs?? Only you Marilyn, only you (:
Yes, that thought had crossed Ian's mind, we did something similar on FS when the dripping came from the Solar Panel above my head. He just has to get onto MB's roof so topping and tailing may be the way we go for the foreseeable future!
