About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

We cross the border and a visit to The Royal Yacht Britannia.

What a late start. 10.30am and we still hadn't left the farm car park shop. We did have an excuse though, it was the amount of alcohol consumed and the lateness of the hour before staggering retiring to bed that was to blame.

We finally made it to Scotland and stopped for the usual touristy photo. Unfortunately, a coach load of Chinese had arrived earlier and was taking a vast amount of photos so trying to get anywhere near was a waiting game.

Today we headed for the Royal Yacht Britannia in Edinburgh.  Took well over an hour and according to the website parking was nearby. T'was nearby all right but in a multi-story carpark! Only realised as we drove toward it and then it was an 'oh 'eck' moment and where to turn around! Anyway, long story short both motorhomes managed and more by luck than judgement found a coach park down one of the side streets which was free.

This was an excellent place to visit. Concessions at £13.50 very reasonable considering the amount to see. So the usual photos to peruse.

The Queen and Dukes connecting bedroom

The top is the laundry and bottom is the men's washroom

Top L the only double bed on board. Top R HM's Rolls Royce. Bottom L Well stocked bar for the Royals and bottom R Officers mess hall. Love the name of the bar. (Verge Inn)
We have made it to Falkirk and parked for the night right by the wheel. Tickets for tomorrows boat trip has been booked and a key was given to us (£20 deposit) to use the boaters facilities. Most unexpected but great to have a shower and empty the loo.

A tantalising glimpse of the Kelpies. A visit for tomorrow perhaps.
