About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Oh dear, nearly got a parking ticket.

Groan....more rain fell overnight and what view we had was shrouded in mist. Was this to be our experience of Skye?

Wind on the waves
Left quite early this morning, a good job too because a massive roadside waterfall came into view and for once there was plenty of spaces for our two vehicles to fit. Even though it was tipping it down, we all traipsed over to the falls for a photo.

Then arriving at Portree carpark things didn't improve because only two spots available and they were for minibuses only (the Motorhome bays were full), Then typically a carpark attendant arrived and knocked on the door clutching his ticketing machine, told us in a very friendly voice that if we didn't move he would slap on a parking ticket and then proceeded to tell us in an equally friendly way that August on Skye was renowned for its atrocious weather and hoards of midges!  But then a lucky break. Two motorhomes left and the attendant mentioned that if we wanted those spots go stand there quick. Thankfully we got into them both just before a whole string on hired motorhomes arrived.

Kev and Gunda's nephew came to visit and we went for a walk in the town. Pretty place and very popular especially with coach tours. No wonder it was difficult to park.

Washing needed doing so a campsite was found. Shame the weather had turned bad again, did make those waterfalls spectacular.

Not sure what to do tomorrow. More bad weather forecast so a decision will be made then.
