About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Mystery boat revealed

There was talk amongst our group of a 10th boat having been included on the ECP&DA moorings. We were baffled as to who it could be and speculation run riot so, when I returned from taking the rubbish to the facilities block above Knowle flight, I noticed a boat moored in front of us complete with bunting already fluttering in the wind which was amazing as it wasn't there when I set of an hour ago. Must have been very quick with getting the bunting up! Anyway, getting almost level, this chap appeared and said 'hello Irene'. Talk about startled! Then he said you don't know me do you? I immediately looked at the boat name and to my surprise it was Brian and Diane from Harnser Travels Apparently he had booked into the rally as an independent and was told to join the ECP&DA group. Well having had a lovely long chat, as one does with meeting a fellow blogger, I pointed out that the bottom was rather near the top and sure enough Harnser (as well as us) were listing quite badly. This I can see will only get worse as, although this is quite a long pound (8 miles), there has been a lot more boat trafic coming from the south drawing the water from this pound ( Hatton Locks ) then those flushing water down from the Knowle locks to top it up again at the northern end.

A very definite list to the left
Later in the day Ian's brother Alan and Angela turned up for lunch. We had a walk around the site and got the boaters pack complete with AWCC 50th Anniversary plaque. Another one to put on our bedroom door. At this rate the door will fall off with the weight.

Then the evening was a great success with the opening ceremony and cutting of the 5oth Anniversary cake. Highlight of the night were the comedy duo Dandy. Good clean entertainment without the usual comedians smutty jokes and swearing. A must see if you ever see them advertised.

Richard Parry cutting the cake.

Dandy

The ECP&DA group
Today Christine, Kev and the two young 'uns arrive. We should have had our son Colin, Iwona and his two young 'uns but the youngest Oliver has come down with chicken pox so not really a good idea to bring him and infecting those around. May not blog tonight as it could be another busy busy day. If not there is always tomorrow.
