About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Looks like we got us a convoy

Vixen lead boat, then Icing and us bringing up the rear.
Another early start this morning. It would have been later, but not only did we have the planes taking off as early as 5.30am virtually overhead, but 4 willow wren boats came past in intervals of 10 minutes from 6am onwards. I wouldn't mind if they crept past quietly but they people on board did insist on talking loudly with no care about those of us still in bed! So by 7.45am we were under way. With us now heading back the way we came I have included the photo of Curdsworth tunnel and the "bump" in the wall that catches the unaware.

Can be seen, far end, on the right of the arch

Curdsworth locks are a doodle, no bottom gates to jump and paddle gear really easy. So for once I got off to do the work. At the flight of 5 we met up with two volunteer lockies. Very helpful considering we had 5 boats in a convoy all waiting to descend. The last three boats were our mob and with the lockies help, saw us through in record time.

Dennis and Gillian being helped through by another boater.

6 locks done 7 to go

Bit more effort needed.

I wonder if the big wigs of C&RT would run their shinny new cars through a overgrown bush?
Having once more turned L at Fazeley Junction, it was another facility stop before heading to Hopwas to overnight. Sun may not be out but our BBQ will. Towpath is sufficiently wide enough not to hinder other users so for once it's the mens turn to do the cooking.

Leaving Fazeley facilities.
