About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

That dog of ours, I despair sometimes!

One minute you feel sorry for Jade when she tries to lie down and her face tells us 'this is going to hurt' and the next she acting like a puppy galloping all over the place. Unfortunately, as much as I love to see her running around, I think she forgets about the pain in her joints. We went to take her out in the car and she got so excited that she tried leaping in the boot from about 4ft away.  I was horrified when she got front legs in boot but the back legs didn't and slammed hard against the bumper. There she hung for a short while until Ian grabbed her and got her into the car. When the right hind leg was held up and she wouldn't put it to the ground we knew she had done herself some mischief. Ian went straight back to the boat and wrapped a Tramadol in a bit of ham to ease the pain. We then traveled to Nottingham to pick up the coal and on to our friend Pat in Leicester. By the time we got back she was almost herself again. The foot was to the floor and she even made an attempt to jump up when her dinner came out. We spoke to our vets and she adviced a Tramadol twice a day for the forseable future as this is the one tablet that can be given with Metacam. Think her walk tomorrow will be a short one and the doggie board will be coming out again.

Doggie board.
Walked back to Newlands about an hour ago to see if any spaces were available. One right at the end of the row of boats seemed promising so tomorrow we will first water up at MK Marina, wind and then hope it will still be there when we get back.

Now I know winter is around the corner.

Making itself at home on the gas locker. ( Look at the state of the windows!)

Oh dear, it sounds as if Jade has picked up a talent for calamity from the greyhounds :-(

Hope she feels better soon.
