About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

So........seems it only takes a big stick.

Another lovely sunset which gave a good indication of the next days weather.

Sure enough, although not wall to wall sunshine, the day was pleasently warm and Ian managed to finish painting the rear deck and weed hatch.

My first walk was toward Branston Lock with Woofit. Not sure if she was a 100% today as she didn't really want to continue on the walk, turning round before we even got to the lock. The Metacam seems to be working so I can only assume I walked her to far yesterday and she was now in a rebellious mood refusing to go any further.

Branston Lock
I had only just arrived back to FS, and was about to set off for a much longer walk round the lake without Jade, when suddenly walking toward me was Pat carrying her windlass and Roger steering The Cat's Whiskers. They pulled into a convenient gap and after hugs and kisses stopped for a quick cup of tea before leaving to have lunch in the George and Dragon at Alrewas.

Pat full of purpose setting of for Tattenhill lock leaving Roger to pull pins ( Thats Roger walking back to TCW)

Off to Alrewas

Farewell and see you somewhere up North
While Ian has been busy working, I again took myself off for a walk but next to the Rape field hoping to see what wildlife was around. I ended up taking loads of photos of bugs, birds and butterflies, in fact 647 to be exact!. I didn't pick up my rod until after 3pm and then was only catching tiddlers. Getting a bit bored I thought I would see what was going on around me instead of staring at the float and found myself watching a bit of porn! So thought you might like to see a bluey (:

First there was the present.

Seems it worked 'cause there seemed to be a bit of urgency to there swimming!

Prelude.........

The mount

And the act!

Job done!
