About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Ice nearly gone

A lovely sight greeted us this morning. Areas of open water. If this keeps up then by tomorrow we should be free to leave Kilby.

The saga of our number plate is now ( hopefully ) at an end. First thing this morning Ian drove to a place in Oadby that could supply a new plate while he waited. He told the guy it was for the front, showed the necessary documents, payed his £9.99 and waited for it to be ready. The bloke duly came back, gave Ian the plate and then realised he had supplied a rear number plate instead of the front!  Well!! You couldn't make it up if you tried. It could only happen to us!!
Anyway after realising his mistake he eventually came back with the right one. One good thing came of it. Ian was given the back plate for free. It was no good to them after all! So now if those b+++rds steal the rear plate, at least we will already have one to replace it.

We have finally finished and submitted the CRT voting forms. That was fun in itself. We very rarely argue but neither of us could agree as to the order of the candidates. My choice wasn't Ian's and vice a versa. In the end we put down the order in which we wanted on a piece of paper, 1 to 8. Then Ian totalled the amounts up and those that added to the smallest amount was put down first. The only two that got anywhere near the top of the list was Andrew Tidy and Alan Fincher. To decide which one would be our main choice we tossed a coin. Andrew Tidy became our no 1 choice. Then Alan Fincher, David Mayall and Clive Henderson. We added another 4 who we felt were also up to the job, breathed a sigh of relieve that it was all done and dusted and celebrated with a nice cup of tea.

Tomorrow we head toward Foxton. We may make an excursion down to Market Harborough but a lot depends on the time. Colin needs us at his place in Milton Keynes ASAP. All the wood and tiles have arrived from Poland ( it was loads cheaper from there, even with the transport, then buying in the UK. Not that I agree with buying abroad but his saving was well over £1000.) As Ian is the only one he trusts to lay the wooden flooring and do all the tiling in the bathrooms you can see why he is very eager for his dad to arrive.
For myself, I cant wait to get going again!

So pleased to hear you got the number plate sorted out.

We did our CRT form, it was easy as we only had a few candidates for the business side of voting.

Hopeful we may see you before we leave the Leicester Line. Once we get up the locks tomorrow we are going down to Welford to see Les at the boat yard, then we will be back on the main line, so finers crossed our paths cross.
Have a lovely day xxxxxxxx

Hello Ian & Irene, we will see you at Foxton today, we are taking on diesel at Debdale, then going up Foxton locks, and will be mooring above the locks for tonight. We are in no particular hurry, as long as we are through Braunston Locks before the stoppage starting on the 27th.
