About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

George and Dragon will have to wait.

Well, we gave it a good go and it was only a five minute walk away from the mooring. We entered the bar, sat at a table and was looking round for the menu, when a gentleman standing by the bar told us if we were looking for something to eat it wouldn't be here! No food served on a Sunday evening! He informed us of two more pubs in the village which he thought might be serving food, The Crown and the William 1V. So off to the Crown first only to find that Sunday night was pizza and burger night. Not really what we had in mind so next stop was William 1V. What a great choice. The meals were delicious. They were still serving Sunday roast and for £7.95 it was very good value for money. The portions were huge, devoured eagerly by us all and we still found room for apple crumble and custard to finish. So if you are ever in Alrewas and fancy a great meal try the William 1V.

After thoroughly cleaning FS super structure we walked to Coates the Butchers. We love their pork and leek sausages and the pork steaks are as lean as can be. Having to watch Ian's fat intake 'cause of his high cholesterol, fat has to be kept to the bare minimum and yes, I can hear your sharp intake of breath, sausages are the worse thing to eat with high cholesterol but sometimes a little of what you fancy does you good, don't you think? (wink wink). You may now have gathered that a BBQ is on the cards tonight. So far the rain has held off although the sky is looking a bit ominous at the moment so we are keeping fingers crossed.

Taking myself off for a stroll I quite liked the idea of walking along the river. First time I have ever walked that section. As is normal for me the camera came too but not the dog. She was unable to get over the lock (which we found out several years ago and she was much younger then) so I wasn't even going to attempt trying to make her cross. Slightly different perspective of the boom across the river

Took loads of photos, as usual, and instead of putting these in my Wildlife Blog I thought I would share a few with you all now.
