About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Farewell to Branston Water Park

What a marvelous day for our travels to begin. It couldn't be better and I made the most of the sunny weather by doing 3 wash loads before we had even reached Branston Lock and the water point. I did start the machine early and at one point left the engine running, locked up the boat, and went for a  quick look at the model motorboat racing at the lake in the park.

That fisherman must have been right cheesed off with the powerboats roaring past and spoiling his swim!

By 11am, and after tea and cake with the Dennis and Margaret, we pulled pins and headed for Alrewas. I must say it felt good to know we were on our way at last, not that I haven't enjoyed the month at the park, but a change of scenery was needed and Alrewas was a good a place as any for that.

Great moorings above the lock
.Off the the George and Dragon for a meal tonight. We have heard that they do excellent meals and Ian also hopes they do real ale. We will see when we get there..
