About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Changing skyline

It's happening all over the country and now it seems it has come to the Erewash. Wind turbines! They are getting every where. This one appeared about 10 days ago. We first noticed the pole ( is that what it is called?) as we drove along A610 toward the M1 and within  days the blades had been installed. It now dominates our skyline and can be seen clearly from Shipley lock lording it over the countryside.

It was a good job that the weather has turned warmer of late as we had to let the fire go out yesterday. Every time we opened the door, smoke would pour in, a certain sign that the chimney was getting bunged up. With us burning mainly wood its amazing how much tar gets generated and it clogs up the flue in double quick time so every now and then Ian has to get out his tool ( a broom handle with half a baked bean tin can fixed to it) and scrape all the muck off from the sides and back into the fire. After each session the ashpan was filled to capacity but at least for now the door can be opened without us choking on the smoke.

And on this mornings walk I couldn't resist taking Jades look of resignation.

This is Jade with her 'come on mum stop taking pictures' look!
And finally:-
