About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Still painting

The boat maintenance is going according to plan. 3 coats of bitumastic has now been brushed on both side's of the hull so now the titavating has begun. I have been painting the gas locker lid and surrounding steel work, on the bow. Unfortunately because Ian brushed red lead paint over the rust spots, I have had to put quite a thick layer of green paint over the top to cover it. The inevitable happened and I have several runs. By the time Ian notice them it was to late to do anything about it. Looks like tomorrow I'll be rubbing down again. Ian has treated the gunwales with primer ready for glossing tomorrow and the first coat of cream and red paint has been applied to the stern.

Gunwales primed.

Dennis is painting his boat pole and plank, Heather scrubbing the cratch cover and Margaret is getting their cover ready for a clean,
Were off to Nb Icing tonight to have a game of Mexican Train. We might be having a lie in tomorrow if the beers come out, as it usually does when we all get together.
