About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Not a good day for painting (day 5)

As badly as we need the rain, we could have done without it today. The second coat of paint was due to be applied to the back counter, but, as far as we were concerned, the wind was blowing in the wrong direction and, with the back of the dock exposed to the elements, there was dust and rain swirling about and landing on the stern. So, instead, Ian glossed the gunwales and I rubbed down and repainted the gas locker cover. Thankfully I got rid of the runs.
On the wall of the dock is a hydro-thermometer clock. As you can see today the humidity  is at 89%, not ideal for painting. Still, work must go on regardless. I just hope the black gloss on the gunwale will dry before morning.
