About Us

In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

One very ill little boy.

Arrived at Colin's, this morning, to find our grandson Oscar very ill. His temperature had risen alarmingly to 40.2, much to high for a 3 year old to cope with. Iwona rushed him straight to the doctors and he found Oscar to be suffering from a chest infection and tonsillitis. He told Iwona to leave Oscar with them while she went to the chemist with the prescription to get the penicillin that Oscar desperately needed., The doctor was extremely worried that his high temperature would set of a febrile convulsion  Oscar has had a few of these fits since he was 14 months old and it was quite probable that he would have another. Thankfully the antibiotics stopped this from happening. Iwona was told that, if his temperature continued to stay high, then tomorrow morning Oscar was to be admitted to the hospital for intravenous treatment. All Oscar wanted to do today was cuddle his mum. He alternated in shivering fits and feeling very hot. All Iwona could do was to give him plenty of fluids and keep him cool by sponging him down. Finally by about 4 pm Oscar started to come round and ask for a lolly pop. His fever seemed to have abated slightly with his temperature down to 38.5. I really hope that it continues to fall because it's very frightening for a young child to have to cope in a hospital environment.

Not much to show for today's work. Ian has continued to cut and clue lengths of skirting for the living room. Dennis has returned to cement the ends of the eaves in the roof. His labourer has cut the holes in the wall for the lights to go in, and I have continued to paint the skirting.

Tiling was started in the bathroom on Saturday

Still more doors needed painting.

I do hope Ian knows where all these lengths of skirting goes!!

Holes made for the lights.

I hope that Oscar is feeling a little better this morning. There is nothing worse than watching your child or grandchild looking so poorly and being pretty much helpless. xxx
