About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

In search of Idris

Gosh, what a lovely lazy week. So used to travelling to one attraction to another, this has turned out to be a welcoming, relaxing break.

Nothing had been planned or discussed for today, the weather was again sunny and warm, and it was over morning coffee that another walk to the river was mentioned. Alan had found a shorter way down, and I had also been told by another camper that Idris (male Osprey) had been seen skirting the water looking for fish at that location. It was after lunch then, when we donned sun hats, sunscreen and midge spray and set off.

The tide was out and not a sign of the Osprey to be seen. What I did see were Egrets and ducks, not really what I wanted but any wild life was better than none.

So we continued through fields of sheep until reaching a barbed wire fence wire with what looked like a bit of blue hose pipe stretched over the top on a very short section and one rickety looking step to get one's leg over, this was another style but not one I fancied trying to clamber over. So another conversation ensued, and a quick consult on Sheila's phone ordinance survey map as to how much further we could go,  it was unanimously agreed to turn back.

What we did come across was this building in the midst of some renovation. Lovely old building, if only it could tell a tale or two, shame I couldn't find out anything about it. The old lantern type lights seem to indicate it could be of a great age.

One more day to go before we go our separate ways. We have decided to stay longer in the Wales area before heading North. So much to see and do including two waterfalls and my regular readers will know this to be one of our' must dos' whenever we have even a hint of one.

And wildlife today,
