About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Soon be sailing the high sea's

The New Year came and went in a bit of a blur, probably many of you experienced the same thing and had a few sore heads the next day.  Partying the night away at our sons with a house fall of people, mainly Polish because of our daughter in law Iwona, we raised our glasses twice to the New Year. First at 11pm our time (midnight in Poland) and then an hour later watching the BBC.

Ready to toast the Polish New Year in

Counting down New Year in Poland (our son has a satellite dish that picks up Polish TV so when Iwona's parents visit they can still see their programs)

And us welcoming in 2015

Watching the fireworks on the Telly

Happy New Year from us both.
I might add that the JD was drunk by 4 people starting at around 9pm. Ian, Colin, Kev (Jameison/Burchnall clan) and Ian one of the guests. 2Ltr went in 4 hours!!!!!

And now for 2015. We have already planned the cruising route for this year. Thames is number one on the list closely followed by the Avon and Severn. Now that our wonderful Woofit has gone, there is no excuse to put off cruising the rivers. Thames we have already done, and loved every part of it, and I cant wait to do it again. We will be joining the river at Brentford instead of doing the tidal bit from Lime House. We also hope to do another couple of rallies and to cruise down the K&A. So I hope you all will continue to follow our travels and maybe meet up for a good 'ol chin wag somewhere on route.

So tomorrow we are off to Southampton and then on Sunday we join the good ship Balmoral (Fred Olsen) for the first part of their world cruise, Egypt and the Emirates. Destination is Dubai from where we will disembark, stay 2 nights and fly home to Heathrow. That wont be until the end of this month though. Hopefully I will be able to post but last time, on the Northern Lights cruise, the internet was diabolical so I have no idea if it will be the same this time. Anyway I will do my best even if we have to find an internet cafe. Enjoy the start of the New Year. Hope the weather wont be unkind, what with all the freezing temperatures.

Just think of us having to put up with the heat.
