About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Port authorities didnt like our Sail in Party

Day 22

Our arrival to Muscat was, for once, on time. Seas exceptionally calm and I got to see a dolphin. How good was that??. Not a brilliant photo but can just be made out.

So we watched as Balmoral entered the port to join another two cruise ships. They were huge  I can imagine them looking at us and  saying 'How quaint and cute is that little ship over there'

Dwarfed by the Costa Serina
We had the parade of the Haggis and then the address to the Haggis to celebrate burns night and the Sail in Party began.....and then promptly finished as the port authorities took um-bridge to us playing disco music and dancing on the deck, especially as the King had just died!!!! Anyway we were soon allowed on shore to do a spot of sightseeing. As all the tours had been cancelled from Muscat most of us took the local mini bus to the Souks. Didn't buy anything although walking down the Gold quarter was for me a temptation hard to resist. Ian assures me that once we get to Dubai he may buy me a trinket or two. Made it back to the ship just before dinner and had the Haggis for our main meal. Quite delicious. Showtime was a medley from all the performers that had entertained us throughout the cruise. Went to bed late again past midnight.

Day 23

Beautiful sunrise greeted us. So nice to wake up to the sun streaming in through the patio doors. We have been very lucky with this cabin as the sun has been on the balcony  the whole duration. Those in the Port side cabins had none.
It's another day at sea doing nothing but laze. Abu Dhabi is our next port and we should arrive tomorrow at 7am. Only two more days on this ship before we have to say farewell. Loved every minute of it........ well......except for the delays, cancelled excursions and that horrible flu/coughing bug. Next adventure will be in Abu Dhabi and our trip to Al Ain the second largest city of the Emirate
