About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

The adventure begins

What a day to start our holiday. We woke to rain at our sons in Milton Keynes, had to make a dash for the coach station after Colin had dropped us off to avoid getting soaked, coach turned up late and the journey to Victory coach station was slow due to the amount of spray on the motorway. Mind you that was nothing compared the the final leg of our journey to Southampton. Stop start for 11 miles on the M3 due to roadworks. Took nearly an hour to clear which inevitably made the arrival at Southampton very late. By now the rain had stopped, so instead of getting a taxi to the Hotel we walked, pulling a huge case each , my camera rucksack (full of camera and lenses), hand luggage and my handbag. Never was I so thankful at depositing all the luggage in the hotel room and then walking to Wetherspoons for a slap up meal and glass of wine. So tomorrow the adventure starts. Check in is at 1pm and we sail about 5pm. So for me at least, the excitement starts now.  Smiley
