About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Course change. Now heading for the Oman

Day 20

Think this ship has some sort of curse on it. First there was the Balmoral cough ( which I might add, and according to several of the passengers who have travelled on this ship,  been around for well over 6 months). Then we had the delay with passage along the Suez Canal causing our cancellation of the trip to Valley of the Kings. Then passengers started with colds (Ian being one of them) and finally (hopefully the last one) the Captain announced this morning that a change of direction was necessary due to a Medical emergency and we are now heading for Salalah in the Oman to off load the passenger. Funnily Ian had an inkling that something was up when he overheard one of the medical staff asking the ships doctor earlier how many bodies were to leave the ship! I don't think it's quite as bad as it sounds 'cos he also overheard him say something about a passenger with heart failure. So estimated time of arrival in Salalah is 5pm tonight. (UK time 1pm) Really hope for a safe outcome of the person in question and their family. Cant think of anything worse then being stranded in a foreign country.

On a lighter note we had a call from reception to say that the pictures of the water cannon in action were now available for us to see and if we supplied Wolfgang, Security Officer, with a memory card he would transfer his photos to it. So here are his photos.

And a couple I took this morning.

Irene, Your naval frigate looks very like a British Type45 destroyer. I can't quite make out the number to be certain. If you can read the number let me know & I'll tell you which one it is - there are six to choose from.

Sorry Graham the destroyer was too far away to get the number but thanks for putting me right. Even Ian thought it to be a frigate. Xxx
