About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Toe-rags on motorbikes

This is a regular occurrence along the towpath from Dolkholme to Sandiacre. I have sent these photos (and more) to our local bobby Laura in the hopes that something will be done.

Talking about motor bikes......having arrived at Christine this morning I was greeted by Kev (son in law). What was he doing home from work and why was he hobbling! Turns out he had a slight accident on his bike. Had an argument with the hard ground. Having slowed right down to negotiate a roundabout, his back wheel somehow went from under him (Kev thinks it was loose gravel) and he ended up on his back in the middle of the road. He was very lucky no other cars were involved and he came away with an aching shoulder and very sore leg. He always wears leathers and helmet which helped stop what could have been a bad injury.  His bike though was a sorry sight. He doesnt think it's a write off but the insurance company have already taken it away. He wont know the outcome for a week or two. All I can say is thank goodness he's okay. With their baby only weeks away the last thing Christine needs is a hubby in hospital!

So I went to the hospital with Christine to look after Josh while she went for the scan and was allowed to join her in the room. Wonderful to see the baby while it's still tucked up cosy inside her. The detail is amazing and no I didnt get to see what the sex was. We were told to look away! Christine wants it to be a surprise but she has mentioned that she would like another boy. Time will tell.
After the scan we went to Moira and walked part of the Ashby canal.  There is about a mile of canal in water and they regularly do boat trips along its length. Really enjoyed the place and spending time playing with Josh. A definite must to come back to in the future.
