About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Busy busy day

The boats kept coming and the arm filled up. Six arrived this morning and more turned up this afternoon.Tomorrow we expect another 3, one of which is a widebeam.. This year the number of boats have surpassed all our hopes. If you think back a year ago we were in freezing conditions and snow was laying. We were lucky if 6 boats turned up and the games evening was a bit of a disaster. Only the brave ventured out.

By 11am and this now.

Today has been all about getting the cottage ready. Margaret and I have been moving tables and chairs, we have washed floors, cleaned work surfaces and hoovered. Then the games were laid out onto the tables ( Rummikub, Mexican Train, Uno, Dominoes etc ) whilst the men have been tidying the grounds and laying the fires. Soon it will be time to order the 17 portions of fish and chips that will start our evening off. Oh happy days.

Jade enjoying the river Erewash this morning. Nice to see it at normal levels

And finally:-

Hello Angie,

The bird is a Goldfinch. So far the weekend has started well with the games evening a roaring success. I'm sure the Pie and Pea will be equally successful.
Best wishes to you

Irene
