About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

The invasion of the Jameisons.

The invasion happened just after 9am. First to arrive was Colin, Iwona, Oscar and Ollie. A mountain of bread buttered and umpteen rashers of bacon on the go got them all fed. After they had had their fill Christine turned up but only with Josh. With Kevin having had his accident on the motor bike only a week ago he still felt a bit sore so decided to stay and do a bit of prepping on the bedroom before the plasterers arrive later in the week. After more tea it was on with work gear, boots and gloves and down went everyone, except for Chrissy and Iwona, into the dock below.

The only room for Jade was in the well deck

Colin and Oscar

Then Josh

Finally Ollie

Iwona and Christine ( She only has another 3 weeks to go!)

After all that hard work we went to the Steam Boat Inn for lunch.

Margaret, Stephen and Dennis joined the Jameison mob.
The lunch was fantastic and enjoyed by everyone and to help stop us all going to sleep in the afternoon the Jameison clan went for a walk along the river right up to Sawley Lock. A large number of yellow ducks were stuck on the far bank and we have no idea where the launch was. The only bridge upstream was at Sawley. They must have traveled a good half mile to get to this point.

And a lovely family photo to finish the day.
With the afternoon drawing to a close the family left us to go there various ways. After saying our goodbyes we walked back to FS and to the mayhem left behind by the mob. Jade had a field day devouring all the food bits left on the floor by the Grandkids and with both Ian and myself getting stuck in with the cleaning it was soon back to some semblance of order. So only the blacking got done but we had a fabulous day with the family even though it was pretty hectic.
