About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Just a wee bit envious

A glorious Good Friday and the punters here at Trent Lock were out in force enjoying the sun, ice creams and pub! And us???? Stuck inside working our socks off grinding, rubbing down and applying the first coat of Bitumen to both hulls. To think this time last year we were freezing and the place was almost deserted. Just goes to show what a bit of sun will do.

Not a lot of room to use the roller

Both anodes were removed

Stephen and Margaret blacking the side of FS The unblackened bits were left so the new anodes could be welded on. a

Prepping the rear doors ready for a repaint.
I did manage to walk Jade and she made straight for the river. Funny how she never goes in the canal but as soon as she sees the river you just cant stop her.

Weather is set to change so I wont be quite so envious of those enjoying the Easter break. Might leave the second coat of blacking until Sunday. After all we have got the dock for a week so no need to rush.

And finally:-
