About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Northern lights dairy part 3

26th Feb Wednesday, Weather partly cloudy

Another reasonable night only waking once when I thought I saw flickering shadows on our ceiling. Had left curtain open just in case the display started. Nothing going on when I looked out.
of the window. Down to breakfast to be told by Jim and Jennie that they had seen the lights at 4am!! Oh how I hated them at that moment. Where was the announcement form the captain!!! Jim showed me his photos. Not bad for a click and shoot camera. Went to a lecture on the Northern Lights. Great photos shown and could only marvel at the quality. If only I was as good as the photographer. Watched the Boudicca dock in Tromso at 13.30 and far enough North to have some decent snow covering the mountains.

6.50 am sunrise. Not far from Tromso

Arriving in Tromso
Had early lunch at 11.30 'cause off to a Reindeer riding and Sami camp (Norwegian natives) Great fun trying to lasso reindeer antlers and then an exciting 10 minute ride pulled by a single reindeer. Had traditional reindeer stew, quite scrumptious and cold cup of tea. Not so scrumptious. Talk on Sami traditions very interesting. Back to boat by 15.45 and blue skies all around. Tonight our Northern Light excursion so hope clear skies a good omen.

Trying my hand at catching the antlers

Got it.

Then Ian had a go
Missed

Yes that's our feet. Me on the left and Ian on the right.
