About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Engine fixed

Having arrived by 9 am at the Anglo Welsh yard we were greeted by utter chaos. Before we could reverse into the basin we had to wait until a boat almost obstructing the bridge hole was moved. Another boat was waiting to turn onto the Staffs and Worcs and it all became a bit fraught.

Removing the obstructing boat.
Then just as we were about to pull in another boat arrived and took our spot.

Stone hire boat leaving. They pulled out in front of this boat without looking. The lady on the back deck was not best pleased!!
Then no sooner had we decided to reverse into the gap that was left when yet another boat turned up and took that spot as well!!. So we waited until the hire boat finally left after having had a pumpout and getting the loo fixed and then finally we managed to reverse into the yard. Keith looked at our injectors and realised that two of the four was peeing diesel in all directions. Luckily he had another set to replace our worn out ones and in no time had these fitted and the engine running again. No wonder our engine was guzzling fuel. He also managed to cure the knocking which had driven me crazy for ages, so for that alone we are forever grateful. Our engine is quiet again..

Keith hard at work.

Just about to start the engine.
We now await our bill and was quoted around £150 for the new injectors. No doubt that will arrive in the post at our daughters in the coming weeks. We travelled all of 1/2 a mile after we left the yard and have now moored by Shugborough Hall. As we are in no hurry we will probably stay for another day or so.
