About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Thomas the tank engine

We knew there was a steam railway running from Embsay to Bolton so we put on our walking boots and set out from Skipton to do the one and three quarter mile walk to Embsay. On arrival at the station I insisted that we have our photos taken with Thomas much to Ian's and the dogs disgust. The place was packed with kids but we still managed to get a seat on the train. This was also the dogs very first train ride and we weren't sure as to how they would cope. Judy shook a bit when the engine first started and they weren't at all happy when the whistle blew but all in all they did really well.
