This level showed it to be above four feet so another foot had risen overnight. |
Headed off to the Falconry Centre at Huntly to watch the raptors in flight. Both of us was a little disappointed. Everyone watching had the opportunity for one to land on their arm but as to the flying demonstration, going from one outstretched arm to another wasn't exactly what I had envisioned. The only raptor to fly to the lure was the Gyrfalcon. I declined the offer to have the Harris land on me but Ian gave it a go.

I can't remember which owl this was. |
Chucked it down again as we left but we wanted to do a walk and was determined to do so rain or no rain. We pulled into 'The Bin' woodlands with its many trails. We took the Farry Knowe trail a 1.7-mile circular walk.
The occasional call of a bird was heard and if it hadn't been for the incessant squeak of Ian's trainers it would have been ever so quiet. Not much in the way of wildlife but plenty of different varieties of fungi to photograph
.
Tonight it was go into a campsite. Loo's (both) at a critical level, water was needed and washing to be done. No plans for the 'morrow yet which is not the way of the Jameisons at all!

Hi Irene
Branching out here...does "African Spotted Eagle Owl" ring any bells from what you were told?
At least it seemed dry for your visit. Hopefully you'll find better weather as you head south again.
Paul
I see from the shadows in the woods during your walk that the sun was out - how come you didn't mention that, Irene darling?
If you want to see the raptors in flight, go to Warwick Castle and be there for the display - very impressive and moving.
The other place we saw that you could go out with a falconer was near Austwick in the Yorkshire Dales - when we stayed in a hotel there a couple of years ago, we went on a walk and saw a couple coming back with the falconer and the bird having been out together. Perhaps you could find it on the net and go there on your way south. Austwick is not very far off the M6.
We are getting closer to your neck of the woods now - aiming for the Lockkeepers Rest this weekend ...

Hi, Paul, there was an Eagle Owl in one of the cages and it could have been the one. I was too busy taking photos and didn't take in what was said.
Oh what a shame we won't be near to you at Trent Lock. Not sure but I'm almost positive that we won't be back to Langley until mid-week, next week. FS will then be coming out ready for the off to Bunbury by the following weekend. Xx
