About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Talk about freaked out!

38° today but hardly any sun so much nicer to walk around. First stop was Sealife with it's three underground tubes to walk through. Loved Birmingham Sealife but this was something else.

Would have stayed longer but I also wanted to get to the Australian Museum of natural history as a spider exhibit was being shown. Now I'm not a big fan of spiders but since taking photos of them I can at least get close and personal. But if they move.....forget it! So we entered the exhibit and Ian just happened to say 'don't look down'. Well, the whole floor was alive with running spiders. Talk about freaking me out! And to top that a white screen on the wall showed a shadow of me with a bl**dy great spider climbing up my side. After the initial shock, I could see how very cleverly put together it was.

By 5 pm we were kicked out asked to leave as the museum was closing so we joined the throngs in making our way to the train. Very lucky to get a seat. Even those double-decker trains have an issue with overcrowding but so cool. That air condition worked a treat until we had to step out once we arrived at our station. Greeted by a wall of hot air which immediately felt draining.
Off to the Maritime Museum and a lunchtime cruise on a tall ship tomorrow so another early start.
