About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Relief at Northwich on the Weaver

Today, May 5th, we have been married for 43 years. Ian reckons it's a Blooming Miracle 'cos he needed the patience of a saint for at least 42 of those years. Well really....I don't know what he means??? Going for a meal somewhere special tonight. I mentioned Wetherspoons but he wants something a bit more posh. Means I've got to get dressed up....now where did I put my posh frock?

Not a bad sunset last night. From having the pontoon to ourselves when we arrived at 5pm, another three boats turned up much later. Two I know are hoping to go up the lift this morning, already having booked for a 9.30am passage (pay an administration fee if you pre book your passage otherwise if you take pot luck, no fee applies).

This morning was glorious and away from the breeze quite warm. We got a way fairly sharpish having just about survived the night crossing our legs (indicator full light flashed on the cassette this morning phew that was lucky!) and within 20 minutes relief at last as we reached the facilities.

Glorious day greeted us

Looks like one of those Ferro concrete barges. (Hulks like in the estuary on the River Severn by Glouster/Sharpness canal)
The Biz done we are now good for at least 4-5 days. No other facilities on the Weaver so may have to return to these before leaving in 5 days time.

Went out to explore and surprised that this place has a fair amount of shops. Wanted to go to the Market but that was closed. Open on Friday and Saturday. So off to  Pound Stretcher and a purchase  made, a big bag of BBQ coals. Yes we are hoping for better weather and the sausages and chops have already been bought in readiness.

And seen whilst on the river,

Ian could have had the 7 year itch six times over! You're on our Northwich mooring :-)

So true. Best not mention it, may give him ideas. (: And that was a brilliant mooring. Very quiet considering we were near the town.
