About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Only downside to a pontoon mooring. Very smokey chimneys

Certainly a day of contrast yesterday. Very glad we stayed put as some of the showers came thick and heavy. We did see the odd ray of sunshine and when we did this spectacular double rainbow emerged.

Even though the chill in the boat got right down to ones bones, we refused to light the stove, choosing instead to turn the diesel heater on. Not so the neighbouring boater! He lit his stove as soon as he arrived causing thick smoke to find its way into any small gap in the air vent and windows. It was like breathing through a smog but 10 times worse! The gas mask on show at the WW1 and WW2 exhibition could have had a new use (if only we could have borrowed them).

Not yet sure if we will move today. Netherwich basin is only a 48hour mooring by rights, but boats attending the festival were allowed to stay until this Saturday. With us already being here for 8 days we are both itching to get on the move again. The forecast is for more rain this afternoon so we might just make a break for the moorings above the river Severn and then head down to Worcester tomorrow.
