About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Nearly strike one for the Swans

Some swans do nest in the most awkward places. We had to take life in hand to get past this pair. We watched a cyclist swerve and nearly end up in the canal as the cob made a lunge at him. Thankfully some nice person had made a barricade of traffic cone and branch which stopped much of the aggression getting to us. Alan and Angela met us at The Anchor and drove us to their house for a while before we headed of to the Royal Oak.

Alan and Angela met us at The Anchor and drove us to their place. Spent a very pleasant few hours supping wine and enjoying the company before eventually heading off for the Royal Oak to partake of an excellent meal.

Standoff between Jasmine (cat) and Josh (flat coat retriever). Very much a Garfield/Oddie moment.

At the Royal Oak

Both swans had moved by the time we returned at 21.45 making it easier to get past. No eggs were seen in the nest, though
An exciting morning awaits as our Australian niece Lizzie arrives. On a work permit as a teacher she is due to leave back to her homeland in July. Train gets into Worcester station at 12.45 so we've been going a bit mad shopping and getting loads of booze in. Still not a 100% sure which way to go when we leave Worcester because a lot will decide on how long Lizzie will be staying and nearest station for her to get back to. It's either down stream to Tewkesbury then upstream on the Avon to Evesham  or back upstream on the Severn to Stourport and onto the Staffs and Worc to Kidderminster. Oh decisions, decision!
