About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

The Kingfisher bunch

Strange title I know but it's because we all met at Kingfisher dry dock a few years ago. Both Roger, Pat ( The Cat's Whiskers ) and Janice ( Jandai ) had their boats finished and fitted out by the lads John and Mick. The only couple missing from our happy band was Fred and Lisa  (Chyandour) but with them enjoying a warmer climate in Paphos it was a bit to far to ask them to come back! When we left Roger and Pat back in October the last thing we agreed upon was to get together with Janice, (she now lives in Hucknall having sold Jandai earlier in the year) and have a meal together. So for quite a while, emails have been going back and forth trying to arrange a date. Roger and Pat pulled into Mercia Marina for their winter moorings at the beginning of November and with us the only ones with a car, it was logical that we collect Janice from her home and all meet up at the Green Dragon in Willington. We had a fabulous get together made even more special because it just happened to be Rogers birthday. The meals were delicious with the only downside being the long wait to get our main meal and then to be told that our deserts would take that bit longer as they had lost our order! Still the company was brilliant and Janice looked remarkably well after all the upset she had experienced this year. Have a great Christmas guys and see you in 2014.

In case you haven't spotted it yet, my Blisworth tunnel article in which you get a little mention is in the Jan edition of Canal Boat, which is out now. Thanks again for your help!
