About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Number 4 done and dusted.

.Yes it was yet another Christmas meal, this time with Dennis and Margaret, Nb Icing, and Dave and Heather with their new boat NbVixen ( Being fitted out at Kingfishers Dock. You can read John and Micks blog here ). The venue was at the Brinsley Lodge Inn Nr Eastwood and for a three course traditional meal the price came to £8.99 each. The service and food was excellent made even better by having such good friends to keep us company. With only two more Christmas meals to go (first one this Saturday with 2 more friends and the last Christmas day), I'm pretty sure Turkey will not be on any part of my menu for a long long time!

Not the best photo 'cause the chap taking it shook a bit and the sun was glaring in through the window. Anyway from L to R Ian, Dennis, Dave, Heather, Margaret and me.
Getting back to the boat Ian decided to stick some of our own designed labels on the Sloe Gin bottles. We may give a couple away especially to our son Colin who is rather partial to this tipple, and I think putting on a label seems to add that finishing touch. It would have been nice to have a photo of Free Spirit on the front but these labels come as standard from a 'Brew your Own' shop and we have no idea where we can get plain sticky bottle labels from. Maybe we need to 'surf the web'!

Needs a bit more sticky stuff on the back as the label was coming off!

We are off the the ECP&DA Christmas meeting tonight where no doubt the article from Mr R Webber will be discussed. Ian has sent a reply to the editor of the Towpath Talk so it will be interesting to see if it gets published. It's probably to late to go in January's issue but you never know, maybe in February?

And finally:-
