About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Only slight havoc was wreaked.

 Saturday 22nd

So the mooring here at Festival Park was okayish, Surrounded by trees the satellite was redundant so no TV to watch. I Player could be had and I binged on The Crown much to Ian's disgust. An early night then,  and just as well because by 4 am I was sat in the lounge playing my fishing game. It was the rain...or more annoyingly the insistent drip from the water droplets off the trees. Every time the wind blew the roof got showered, it was torture. I can't stand a ticking clock in the bedroom and this was a thousand time worse. I hoped Ian would wake early because I was desperate for a cup of tea. He didn't stir until 7 am!

Going on the Caldon means shops are few and far between so rain or no, we braved the weather to walk to Morrisons to stock up. Then it was the wait for the family to arrive. A table had been booked for 1 pm and with a minute to spare they arrived. Toffee was hurriedly taken to FS, hoped she would settle down with a bone and we left her too it.

Well over an hour later we returned. What greeted us was she had obviously been on our bed, the quilt was messed up and pillows scattered. In the lounge she had also jumped on the sofa bed which had slid across the floor blocking the way but no damage was found, I think it was the stress of being left that made her jump on the furniture plus the fact that both grandsons had returned unbeknownst to us after the meal and had been calling her name. That was let slip when we were back in FS!

Thinking we would only have her for three weeks, we were asked if we could keep her for a further week. All too happy to oblige as she’s a lovely dog, I told Colin we may not allow her to leave.

We reckon Toffee should become your boat dog full-time. Warm Colin up to that idea starting now! Okay?
