About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

We say goodbye to Adelaide

 April 13th

Breakfast was NOT at the hotel. Those bags could not be faced again! Instead we went in search of a cafรฉ by the waterfront. The first thing we noticed was the bridge crossing the River Torrens, very modern and completed in 2014. It linked the city to the Oval making it much easier for pedestrians to get to the stadium.

AFL football (Aussie Rules) were being played all this week, consequently everywhere was closed off and my hope of taking a photo of the stadium inside was denied. A walk around the outside was permitted so we decided to go for that.

Not a single cafรฉ found on that walk, nothing for it but head back to town. Finally a shopping mall was found with a food area, breakfast at last. Because of the football Police were very much in evidence including the mounted Police. Again we were not allowed to approach the horses, two were novices and in training for crowd control tonight. What a wonderful sight, 4 greys all behaving impeccably.

By noon, it was time to return to the hotel. A cab was hailed and it was off to the airport for the flight to Sydney.

A very full plane meant I was unable to sit by a window. My brother did get a window seat so my camera was handed to him to take the birds eye view of the Sydney Harbour bridge and Opera house.  Not too bad a photo although personally I would have tried to zoom in. But there again, his camera skills are almost zilch never normally taking any photos. That is usually left to Sally!

We landed after a 90-minute flight. Baggage claim was quick, caught the train to Central station and managed to catch the train back to Hornsby with a 4-minute dash from platform 8 to 18 carrying luggage and racing downstairs. Phew, the doors started closing as the last of us got in.

Our time in Australia is almost at an end. We have that Sydney Harbour lunch cruise to look forward too and we may still take time to drive to Canberra for two nights. That is still to be decided.

And seen at Adelaide. (not for the faint hearted)
