April 11th
The final morning and we awoke to overcast skies and a distinctive cold feel. Adelaide was a cool 12 degrees with the chance of a shower later. The afternoon temperature was for about 21 degrees, far cry from the 30s experienced a day ago. After breakfast, it was back to the cabins to pack. The arrival at Adelaide station wasn't until 12 noon so plenty of time to enjoy the last few hours with fellow passengers. There was also an announcement to say the train would be going around a very sharp left-hand bend and a good opportunity to see it from the rear of the train. A good view was had, shame about the mucky windows!
With us being the very last carriage it was just typical that we couldn't disembark on the platform. Train was too long to fit so we had to manhandle the luggage through two carriages before finally alighting onto the platform.
Very end and the one next to it was for the crew, we were the third carriage. |
The long walk to the front. |
A taxi was hailed and within 10 minutes we arrived at the Grosvenor hotel in the heart of the city.
The room was large but lacked any sort of heating or view from the window. Oh well, It's just to sleep in after all! That afternoon we took the tram to Glenelg beach. A huge ferris wheel dominated the skyline and beyond was the pier. Shame about the weather, everything always looks so good in the sun. Anyway we had lunch and then walked along the promenade before returning to the hotel.
Tomorrow we have booked a wine tasting tour. This is something we have never done so looking forward to that immensely! I'm assuming I don't need to spit the wine out after taking a sip, after all where is the benefit in doing that?
And seen by the beach
