18th February
Well, well, well. A remarkably good night's sleep was had after all. Containers stopped being loaded by 9 pm and all we had was the hum of the ships engine. So reminiscent of when we were on the cruise ships many years ago, it actually helped us off to sleep rather than hinder.
Today we made for Christchurch via Geraldine. The
land has changed from the dramatic Southern Alps to being more flat and
uninteresting. The roads straight with very little bends to keep the
interest. So I failed in taking any photos of the journey today. When we
reached Arundel Bridge we stopped early at a freedom camping spot near
to the Rangitata river. It was only 3 pm but the sun was out the day was
warm and we felt like a walk along the river. Camp was set up and off
we went.
It could have been a lovely walk had it not been for vegetation either side of the river to hinder our progress.
Yes it was cold and very fast flowing. |
Quiddler is about to commence. |

We will beat him into submission when you get back here, Irene. And if he happens to win, we will make his life miserable in others ways ...
