About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Sitting target

I'm pleased to say (and so is Ian) that he didn't make contact with the floor this morning after all. The water levels have returned to normal mainly I think because a boat ascended late afternoon, winded and went down again. Reckon the lifting of the paddle gear once more did the trick. So whatever the obstruction in the paddle was, it is now a thing of the past.

No sign of Storm Freya as yet. Bit blowy last night and it's hardly stopped raining today, which in a way is a good thing because some toerags on the bridge last night took great delight in throwing several stones in our direction. We have had to resort to protecting the front windows with the removable covers supplied with the cratch.

Several days ago and before we left Langley Mill, we drove back to Sandiacre to see if the sewage pipe in the restored lock on the Derby Canal had been repaired. This is how we found it then.

Substantial fence erected

Repaired section

And yesterdays photo

Seems to be filling nicely!
Word on the street says the sewage pipe is still awaiting removal by Severn Trent and then the plan is to dig out the spoil in the bridge 'ole to allow the water to flow in. Now that I would love to see if and when it happens!
