About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

The quiet side & the noisy side.

Moved to another Brit Stop site yesterday. This time at the Rugby Club at Ty Croes just off the M4 motorway.  Passing the helicopter museum the Red Arrows, on their way to an air display at Weston-Super-Mare, treated us to a personal (or so it seemed) aerobatic performance on their fly past. Photos not brilliant but they were taken through the Beast's windows.

Severn Bridge

£5.60 toll charge going west only. Free on the way back.
On arrival at the site, we had the pick of places to park. Only us there until about 8 pm when the Germans arrived in their motorhome. Very pleasent folk although not a lot to say for themselves. Not sure their English was that good.  Anyway, an early night was had after all that exercise at Cheddar Gorge and had hopes of a lie in seeing as we only had 40  miles to do to get to Fishguard where we would catch the ferry to Ireland. But it was not to be as although one side of us the neighbours were really quiet, (they were all dead!)) not so the other side! No not the Germans but builders dumping lorry loads of sand on the hard standing almost next to the Germans Motorhome at some silly o'clock in the morning! They left soon after!

Today we made the 40-mile journey to Fishguard. The ferry across the Irish sea isn't until 1pm tomorrow and a lovely rural and quiet site was found with electric and showers and most important of all, a washing machine. Now enjoying a glass of shandy in 23 + heat watching Ian washing the Beast and relishing in the relaxation of it all.

I can see the sea from here!
